Updates

There are 3 Special Communications in this issue. Please read these as they present thoughtful and thought-provoking ideas.

Kretch and colleagues wrote responses to the updated motor milestone surveillance measures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.1 These updated measures, available at the CDC website as “Learn the Signs. Act Early”2 are based on the work by Zubler3 and colleagues representing the American Pediatric Association. The Special Communication by Kretch and colleagues offers insights into the new measures. The APTA Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy held a town hall meeting this spring for discussion regarding the new measures with close to 1,000 attendees. The recording of this meeting is available on the Academy webinar page (https://pediatricapta.org/events/webinars/?recID=C33F94E0-A3BE-6BBE-9A89CE2775C11BC9)

Sabet and colleagues argue that mobility is a human right. They present their foundation for this unique position. I believe this will provoke discussion and a rethinking of the importance of mobility in our lives.

Leite and colleagues present research similarities and differences on cerebral palsy from low- and middle-income countries. They raise important issues for research and practice for people with cerebral palsy from various countries.

Pediatric Physical Therapy continues to receive manuscripts from research on pain in people with cerebral palsy. Carozza and colleagues report on the impact of pain on the lives and quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and the importance of physical therapists assessing pain and its impact.

Another volume of Pediatric Physical Therapy is completed with this issue. I want to thank all the authors, reviewers, editorial team and publisher for another excellent year of providing evidence for physical therapy practice and research.
