Introducing High School Students to Human Rights to Help Promote Environmental Justice and Health: An Example from NJ and NYC

Midhat Rehman, BA, MPH (c) is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and currently MPH student at Rutgers School of Public Health (SPH) and research/program student assistant with the NJ Safe Schools Program. Her MPH concentration is in Health Systems and Policy (Department of Health Behavior, Society and Policy). She will graduate in May 2022.

Lauren N. Gonzalez, BS, MA was a Research Teaching Specialist (RTS IV) at Rutgers SPH with New Jersey Safe Schools Program to January 2021. After finishing her master's in arts in education Teachers College (TC) at Columbia University in fall 2021, she started a management-level position conducting research with an educational technology company. In addition, she works for Columbia TC on a project aimed to promote resilience in U.S. K-12 Schools. She is also a graduate of Boston University.

Dr. Derek G. Shendell, D.Env, MPH is an Associate Professor and Concentration Leader (Environmental Health Sciences), Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Justice, Rutgers SPH; and, Principal Investigator/Director, NJ Safe Schools Program. He and his teams “bridge” field-based research, school-based surveys, injury surveillance, and educational trainings in a multidisciplinary fashion to inform policy and practice
