Ultrasound‐guided superficial cervical plexus block in the treatment of post‐herpetic neuralgia

We describe a case of facial postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) treated with an ultrasound-guided superficial cervical plexus block (SCPB).

A 47-year-old woman was referred by an ENT-specialist to our pain clinic with an intense (NRS 8/10) left-sided temporo-auricular allodynia radiating to the maxillar, mandibular and cervical region. Tinnitus, sensation of ear congestion and mild hearing loss indicated possible involvement of the facial nerve.
