“When he passed away, there was stillness. He had been unconscious for a few hours, yet his larger-than-life presence could still be felt. At any point, I was expecting him to wake up and start issuing orders. That never happened. Instead, he just went away peacefully and elegantly. The stillness that followed was emotionally neutral. It felt like the blank between the many typed lines that had made up my dad’s life and a good deal of ours’ – lives deeply marked by Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder that had characterised most of his decisions and actions for at least sixty years.”
