[News] Urgent action needed to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030

WHO's global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis 2016–21 was designed to eliminate viral hepatitis as a major public health threat by 2030. It set a target of a 30% reduction in new cases of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections by 2020, and a 90% reduction by 2030. The target for hepatitis B and C deaths was a 10% reduction by 2020, and a 65% reduction by 2030. On May 20, 2021, WHO released its 2021 global progress report on HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections, which includes the latest data on the burden of HBV and HCV.
